H I S T O R Y
Joao was one of the original Magnificent Seven.
(c. 1939 - c. 2000)
Joćo, Portuguese for 'John', was also known by his
Afrikaans name of 'Klein Haaktand', which means
'Small Hook-tooth'.
Joao survived an attack by poachers and losing both tusks in 1984.
The cause of the deadt is unknown and his tusks were never found.
His tusks however were measured when he
was immobilised for the fitting of a radio collar. Combined his tusks were estimated at about 130kg, which makes him the heaviest ivory carrier of the M7.
Joćo was the last remaining member of The
Magnificent Seven and he might have died
sometime before 2000. His body was never
found.
Range
He roamed the area around Shingwedzi Rest Camp and to the south of the Shingwedzi river
Characteristics
Joao had a longer left tusk which was more straight , his right tusk was bowed en curved inwards
Joao was a large bull with a shoulder height of 3.40 meter
