H I S T O R Y
Shawu was one of the original Magnificent Seven.
(c. 1926 - 1986)
Shawu, was named after the Shawu valley where he spent most of his life.
His name in Afrikaans was "Groot Haaktand" or "Large Hook-Tooth" (in english)
He was a friendly elephant and showed
no of vehicles and visitors.
Shawu was a large bull with a shoulder
height of 3.40 meters
Shawu died of old age in October 1982 at an estimated age of 60 years.
The tusks of this bull are displayed at the Elephant Hall Museum at Letaba in the Kruger National Park
Range
He roamed the area between Letaba and Shingwedzi restcamps , often seen in the Shawu valley
Characteristics
NdShawu's left tusk is the longest on record in the KNP and one of the longest ever measured in Africa. Both tusks were very long, over 3 meters each
